Orval Day!

Belmont Station will be celebrating the annual Orval Day on Saturday March 22nd. On this day we will have Orval for sale in the shop as well as behind the bar. You can post up and enjoy the first Brett beer to hit the United States.

Each year on Orval Day, the importer Merchant du Vin donates a portion of Orval sales to a charity. Come enjoy one of these exquisite beers and help donate to a good cause.

The stories behind Orval and Orval Day are pretty amazing.

The Orval legend began almost 1,000 years ago, when a princess accidentally dropped her ring into a spring and a trout returned it. It continues now, with a day to reflect on and enjoy this amazing Trappist ale.

On Orval Day, devotees of Orval Trappist Ale – and some folks who maybe have not tried it yet – convene to celebrate one of the world’s unique and highly-respected beers.

Orval Trappist Ale has a sunset-orange color; a fruity and slightly acidic bouquet, firm body, profound hop bitterness, and long, dry finish. Orval is bottled with Brettanomyces, a yeast strain that leads to superb dry complexity and ageworthiness. It is brewed and bottle-conditioned at Abbaye Notre-Dame d’Orval, one of only 9 Trappist monasteries in the world that brew beer.

Some people have been known to age the beer as well and drink them in groups year by year.

No matter if you have had Orval before or not, come on down and celebrate with us on this amazing occasion.
